Financing. Probably the biggest challenge in starting up and operating a business is financing. The best way is still to apply for a business loan but if you’re a new business, getting approved may not be that easy. Nevertheless, it does not mean you should give up.
It is a good idea to consider your local bank especially if you have been a long time customer. Keep in mind that in the absence of business credit history, your personal credit will be taken into consideration. If you have a maintained a good record with your banker, you should be able to get approved for financing more easily.
Check your personal credit report at least six months prior to your business loan application so you can have more time to work on improving your score if needed. A month before submitting your loan application, check your report to make sure that it contains no errors or misinformation which may cause your credit rating to drop.
Time. Many people are attracted to the idea of owning a business because of flexibility. But running a business, especially during the start-up stage may require lots of time and attention. If you’re used to doing an 8-hour routine, you may soon find out that managing a business actually involves more hours of work. If you used to work for five days a week as an employee, managing your own business could mean attending to your duties even on weekends.
True, time management can become a challenge. You will need to determine your priorities and organize a doable schedule to make sure that none of your obligations will be compromised. Managing time will require self-discipline and motivation on your part but if you are determined to succeed in the business, then you can get over this hurdle.

If you worked as an employee, you may have been used to doing tasks related to a specific department of the company such as marketing, accounting, sales, human resource, etc. When you own the business, you are the one in charge of all tasks related to these areas which can be overwhelming.

Of course, you need to be motivated and be ready to work hard to make sure that none of your tasks are compromised. When you run a business, you cannot let procrastination take over as it will ruin your plans and bring trouble.
